Clinical PsychologistDr. Stuart Weir is a clinical psychologist at Monarch and serves as faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Houston Methodist Hospital. He specializes in treating individuals who suffer from complex symptoms and diagnoses, and who may not have benefited from other treatments. Dr. Weir also has particular expertise in multi-method and comprehensive psychological assessment, as well as providing clinical supervision and consultation. He has extensive experience in utilizing evidence-based therapeutic approaches for personality and co-occurring disorders, such as Mentalization-Based Therapy and Transference-Focused Psychotherapy. A dedicated educator, Dr. Weir regularly teaches and speaks on the topic of personality disorders and their treatment. Dr. Weir believes that change happens when he and his patients work collaboratively and use their therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for growth. He understands that people are hurt and healed in the context of their closest relationships, and he strives to help his patients achieve greater insight, self-compassion, and capacity to connect with others. Before his tenure at Monarch and Houston Methodist, Dr. Weir held training and faculty positions at Baylor College of Medicine and The Menninger Clinic. His other past clinical experience extends across diverse settings such as state prisons, forensic environments, community clinics, and schools.
